The Alaska Airmen’s Association sent an email to its members on Monday, Dec. 15, detailing the status of the 18th Annual Great Alaska Aviation Gathering. “As you may know for the past 17 years, FedEx has graciously hosted The Great Alaska Aviation Gathering in their Anchorage maintenance hangar,” said Dee Hanson, Alaska Airmen’s Executive Director. “Every year we submit a written request to FedEx for permission to host the show. Due to reasons unknown to us, this year we have been told unofficially that the hangar may not be available.”
While still unofficial, the Airmen’s Association is asking both members and exhibitors of the annual gathering to write FedEx leadership about what the event means to the community and encourage continued support.
“We recognize that this decision is within their rights,” continued Hanson. “But please respectfully ask for their continued support. The Great Alaska Aviation Gathering is the Alaska Airmen’s largest community outreach event.”
Hanson pointed to Frederick W. Smith, chairman and CEO, FedEx Corporation; Alan B. Graf, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, FedEx Corporation and David J. Bronczek, president and CEO, FedEx Express for communication.
