WingX Pro7 introduces CFI Free and SV Free

By General Aviation News Staff · December 25, 2014 ·

Hilton Software has unveiled two new initiatives: CFI Free And SV Free

WingX RewindCFI Free provides every CFI with a free solution to integrate WingX Pro7 and WingX Rewind into their flight training.

Certificated Flight Instructors (CFIs) get the following for free:

  • A WingX Pro7 subscription including WingX Rewind
  • An Advanced IFR subscription with Approach Chart Geo-Referencing and IAP Routing
  • A Synthetic Vision subscription

WingX Pro7 introduced Synthetic Vision on the iPad and iPhone more than three years ago. Synthetic Vision is now free for all pilots with a current WingX Pro7 subscription.

”We are very excited to announce two new initiatives as we head into 2015,” said Dr. Hilton Goldstein, CEO. “The WingX Rewind launch has been incredible. Many CFIs are integrating WingX Rewind’s record and playback capability into their flight training. We want every flight instructor to have this valuable instructional tool. Today we are introducing the CFI Free initiative so that Flight Instructors get a WingX Pro7 subscription, our industry-leading Advanced IFR Subscription, and our Synthetic Vision subscription for free. But we didn’t stop there. All WingX Pro7 pilots with a current subscription get our Synthetic Vision subscription for free. CFI Free and SV Free is our way of saying thank you for a wonderful decade of support.”

This seems to be another scam. I have sent WingX three emails and not only do they not send anything they don’t even reply.

      Jerry,

I had to send my email twice, but I did get the link to receive what they advertised. Did you send them a copy of your license? I would try it again, or call them. But it is not a scam. I got mine, and at no charge.

Worked great for me. Submitted the scanned CFI certificate as requested via the email advertised. Had a response with a password within several hours. Downloaded and it is excellent. I seriously doubt if it is a “scam”. Must be a glitch in communications for you.

Wow! What a great way to begin the New Year, an offer for free software, that just might help me to be …. or to make me a better CFI. Cool. Now why are we (seems to be nearly all writing here today) so unable to stand anyone else’s views, + or -, without such negativity and silly personal prefferences being a problem??? Why? If one does not like Apple so what? Even now you can buy a great used (tad bit older) Apple for very little money and use this free program, so why the problem? Let’s do something that seems to be lacking here….. let’s be nice, talk nice, act like a pro, and interact like brothers instead of ragging on each other, saying things that would rile or make others feel badly??.
To the makers of WingX: thank you ever so kindly….and…. may your New year be a great one! 🙂

With the advent of Phablets, who wants to carry around another device.
Android has approximately 80% of the world phone market and the tablet market for them is relatively new but quickly catching up. Android is open source with many more apps available. Everything seems to be getting internet access and most of it is Android not iOS. Watch what happens at the CES this year in a few days. I have been waiting on this type application for years as I have been instructing for 29 years but simply refuse to to buy iOS. I use all free apps on Android for now or things I have cooked up from free Goolge products to allow students to download their cross countries and to be able to place them on Google Earth for some time now. Works great on Android and fairly well on iOS.

Those are the most lame excuses I have ever heard!

Sounds more like a conversation at an old folks home rather than forward thinking Flight Instructors.

I’m 70 years old and been teaching for 44 years BUT I am always looking for anything that improves learning for my students.

I will defiantly be evaluating this and really appreciate Xwings forward thinking and the opportunity they are providing us.

      Agreed.

Also, there are many platforms and many EFB apps out there, and as an instructor it doesn’t matter what you learn or use personally. Whatever you use though, learn it well. Then when your student comes to you with WingX, Avare, Foreflight or [insert trendy EFB app of the day here], you’ll be able to help them make the most of their app or platform of choice.

If you haven’t used Wing X you have no idea what you’re missing. It is an excellent instructional tool as well as the best of the various “Do all” flight tools.

If you’re so hung up with your hatred of Apple that you can’t get past your bias, it’s your student’s misfortune.

Hey..hey. This isn’t about selling iPads or Apple vs Android. Just a free goody for CFIs, if you can use it or want it. Take it or leave it. To me (pilot since ’58, CFI since ’67) all this current and still developing technology just blows me away. I’ll certain be delighted to give this free offer a whirl. Although I’m sure all tablets are super, we’re an Apple product family, with three iPads. Love them. (No…you can’t have one!).

Wow. Talk about grumpy old men. If you don’t want their offer then don’t take it. If you don’t want an iPad don’t buy it. But for goodness sakes take a chill pill. Some of us like the iPad. I have had one quite awhile and use it extensively. Some of us might like to try this software. I hope your judge mental attitudes dont enter the cockpit

    Russell and John,

Thanks for not sipping the Kool Aid of changing technology. That gives instructors like me who (fortunately or unfortunately) see GPS’es and EFBs as the future of flying a clearer path to download this sooner. Whether you choose to embrace it or not, your students are, so you might as well learn to use the technology. I expect that paper charts will soon be discussed in the same way that old pilots discuss “flying the beam” or doing NDB holding.

You can turn your nose up at the “useless pieces of crap that Apple produces” and do your students a disservice, or maybe just rethink how technology is merging with aviation. Maybe a better way is to teach your students how to use it, but not rely on it blindly. But the only way to do that is to learn how to use it yourself. FWIW, my company has embraced the Surface Tablet as its EFB platform, and it is a piece of crap as well. So Apple has no corner on the market of Crappy products.

I do embrace technology and use it myself and encourage all of my students to do the same. I encourage them to not limits themselves or their abilities by not being blinded by the BS spewed by apple. There are much better product’s that do not limit yor students choices.

Go to the top of the article, look down a couple of line to Hilton Software. Click on that and it will take you to their web site. You’ll need to scan you CFI certificate, but it was an easy and quick process of registering.

Kool Aid or not, it’s a superior OS that most major airlines now use as their primary tablet for charts and manuals. I think I’ll stick with Apple products. Thanks WingX! We’ll use your product well.

  12. Russell Turner says

    December 30, 2014 at 11:52 am

The article is interesting but it makes too many assumptions . I am and have been a CFI for a long time (over 40 years) but I have no knowledge about this software or its use. There are many more android tablets than IPads and without realizing some real value from the software I doubt if many flight instructors will spend the money for an IPad. .

It seems that no good deed goes unpunished…

If Apple stepped up and offered free iPads to CFIs, would you be willing to look into this software that really is a leader in its field? (I’ve only been a CFI for 27 years so I’ve still got a lot to learn.)

Their offer although a good one, is not enough to get me to waste time and money on the useless pieces of crap that Apple produces. I refuse to drink the Kool-aid.

Being an “apple hater” does not make someone a bad instructor. The personal attack was unnecessary.

“Hello, pot. This is kettle. You’re black.”

i suppose one might say the same for me..

          December 30, 2014 at 12:39 pm

Then don’t, but others can certainly make their own choices. I happen to know many CFIs that aren’t apple fans, but their iPads work just fine. Granted, most of them are using Foreflight, and won’t have much reason to switch.

          December 30, 2014 at 2:08 pm

I agree with John. I use Apple gadgets but find I don’t like the Apple based programs. I prefer Android based stuff but that’s not my issue here. Our geeks are assuming everyone will fall for the Apple-a-day program and update regularly. I always have updates and or a need for more memory after an update because my device is full when I had plenty storage before the update. OK, I’ll get off my soap box and be quite.
