The United States Air Force Thunderbirds will perform at the 2015 Aviation Roundup in Minden, Nevada, Aug. 22-23. The airshow is a recent addition to the Thunderbirds’ 2015 schedule, which previously announced the team would perform 71 demonstrations in 39 locations.
The weekend performance at the Minden-Tahoe Airport will increase the number of Thunderbirds demonstrations to 73 shows in 40 locations, according to the squadron’s Commander, Lt. Col. Chris Hammond.

“An opening in August allowed us to take on another show site,” said Hammond, who is also known as Thunderbird 1. “With part of the Thunderbirds mission being to connect the public to their military, the Team is eager to engage as many people as possible. This is a great opportunity to showcase the hard work and precision of the airmen of the US Air Force; we’re looking forward to putting on an exciting and safe show in Minden.”
The Thunderbirds were formed in 1953. The 2015 season marks the 33rd year the squadron has performed in the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
Did not realize the team had been flying the F-16 that long! Recently watched the show at Seymour Johnson AFB. My 7 year old grandson met Lt. col. Hammond & his slot pilot. Always a great show! Very motivating for young aviation enthusiasts. Nothing like flying a high performance jet fighter!
So excited to see the Thunderbirds coming to Minden-Tahoe! Honor Flight Nevada will be there to spread the word and hopefully sign up veterans for upcoming trips. Looking forward to it!
Congratz to Bobbi and the rest of the crew at the Minden-Tahoe Airport for setting up this amazing event. Sierra Skyport (http://www.sierraskyport.com) will be there showing off our new Cirrus aircraft as well!
Congratulations! The Taildragger Cafe will need to get ready… Great place to stop for a late breakfast after a January cross-country from Stead around the west side of Lake Tahoe, joining the midfield downwind from a 2000′ spin after crossing the pass…
