Breitling introduces connected watch

By General Aviation News Staff · April 17, 2015 ·

Breitling has introduced the B55 Connected, which enables two-way communication between the watch and a smartphone.

Owners can use their phone to perform certain adjustments (time-setting, timezones, alarms, display and operating parameters, night mode, etc.). The user may also upload the results of various measurements (flight times, etc.) from the watch to the smartphone so as to be able to read them more easily, store them or pass them on.

B55 ConnectedThe B55 Connected boasts a range of functions, including an electronic tachometer, a countdown/countup system enabling a sequence of countdown and “long duration” timing (Mission Elapsed Time) operations, along with an aviation-oriented “chrono flight” device that is useful in recording flight times while memorizing the takeoff time, landing time and date.

Function selection is by rotating the crown, and activation/deactivation by means of two push pieces.

Thanks to a miniaturized rechargeable battery system, the watch may be recharged via the main grid or a computer USB port.

Blimey, not to be used when flying over the Alps?
So, plot your route onto an iPhone, take off and trust your passengers don’t know that you rely on a watch to get you there
Let me know if you’re my pilot. I might want to dis-embark prior to take off

Hopefully this all done on the ground BEFORE getting into the cockpit. Just one more gadget to look at instead of looking outside. Sheesh!
