Globalair.com blogger Sarina Houston’s latest post is about the venerable P-51, which she claims is the most beloved airplane at any air show. “Whether you know the history of the airplane or not, the Mustang is an airplane that stops you in your tracks. Its beauty captivates you, lures you in, and makes you want to hear its story. And it’s a story worth repeating, air show after air show,” she says. Read it here, then let us know: Do you agree? What’s your favorite airplane at an air show?

One can see Mustangs at almost every Airshow. Scott Yoak does some excellent demonstration flights on Quicksilver… but I would fancy more in the US to see a Corsair or a Lightning.
But rarity rules… so let us see a Fw190 D… now that is a nice plane, performing and rare.
Absolutely agree.
I think there is a natural draw to the purity of design. It was penned with singular purpose, uncompromised*. The world’s most beautiful airplanes almost all started that way… never intended to be “all-in-one” airplanes, they were built to do one thing, and do it well. The P-38, F-15, F-104, A-12/SR-71… and the P-51.
(*I refer here to compromise of mission. Aerodynamically, every airplane has to balance –compromise– between speed, weight, range, etc.)
