Picture of the day: Meeting at Triple Tree

By General Aviation News Staff · October 8, 2015 ·

Regular contributor Bill Walker was able to get to the Triple Tree Aerodrome Fly-In in mid-September and put together a great story with lots of photos for our Oct. 20 print issue (the story will post online later this month).

But before then, we wanted to share these photos of the P-51 “Swamp Fox” and a very special pilot.

Swamp Fox
R.T. Dickson, Jr., arrives at Triple Tree in the Swamp Fox, a P-51 Mustang that was a crowd favorite at the Triple Tree fly-in 2015.
Swamp Fox 2
World War II fighter pilot Morris McKinney, 96, talks with R.T. Dickson, Jr., Swamp Fox pilot.

What is more remarkable is that the P-51D “Swamp Fox” has the squadron designator C5A. Guess who the previous pilot was who flew C5A before it was “Swamp Fox?. It was Morris McKinney! Before “Swamp Fox”, C5A was “Round Trip Jr.” Every once in a while all the stars align.
