New IFR course released by AOPA Air Safety Institute

By General Aviation News Staff · October 21, 2015 ·

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Air Safety Institute (ASI) has released a new course designed to provide pilots with techniques for flying more safely under instrument flight rules (IFR).

“IFR Insights: A Practical Approach” is available to all pilots free of charge.

“IFR training teaches pilots to focus on flying the airplane within very precise parameters, but it often overlooks practical tips that help reduce pilot workload,” said George Perry, senior vice president of the Air Safety Institute. “In this course, we’ll go beyond the textbooks and offer useful insights to put into practice on your next IFR flight.”

The course was made possible with support of the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, and the Tom Davis Fund.

Every time AOPA states a training class is ‘free’ it really is not. Open the link and the only way you get to take the course is to sign up and establish an account. One more reason I stopped being an AOPA member. They just don’t tell you the whole story only what they want you to read or hear. Sorry AOPA until you become more transparent I will not be a part of your organization.

Last I checked you could have a free account with AOPA. Which would still makes this course free, if not part of paid section (which it sounds like it’s not). Or has this changed?

Annual membership dues, yes, but additional fees for taking an online course such as this by ASI, no. Transparency has never been an issue with AOPA for me.

I am an AOPA member, but for me links to this ASI program result in an endlessly loading page in both Firefox and IE on an ordinary PC. Maybe I should light some incense.
