CONROE, Texas — The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) has reached an agreement with NextGen Aero for anchor sponsorship of the inaugural MODAERO NextGen Aviation Festival, slated for March 16-19, 2016, at the Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport.
“MODAERO was created to meet the untapped demand for an aviation event featuring the topics, interests and culture unique to Millennials,” said Brian Columbus, founder of NextGen Aero, producer of the event. “This demographic, despite being the most thriving in the industry, is lacking a real-world venue to celebrate their own version of aviation culture and community. We have seen an explosion in GA’s online and social media spheres, but there has been no purpose-built events targeting this growth demographic. We believe this level of community participation is the key to growing the aviation population again.”
Ditto. Looking forward to the details and agenda.
As a pilot not too far out of the millenial generation (born ’68), i would hope that there is as much or more focus on basic flying skills than all the hi tech (very cool!) technology there is becoming available.
This festival is a great concept and represents, I think, the most productive direction for maintaining the long-term health of General Aviation. Young people are literally the future of GA.
I hope that the event will focus on themes and activities that genuinely appeal to young people, and not just what old geezers like myself imagine will appeal to them.
