Gary Lanthrum sent in this photo, explaining: “This is me enjoying my morning latte at the High Sierra Fly-in. Flying a Maule gives me enough hauling capacity that I bring an espresso machine on my airplane camping trips.”
“This fly-in was held on the Dead Cow dry lakebed in northwest Nevada on Oct. 22-25 this year and was the best fly-in ever,” he said, adding, “This shot was taken with my Lumix GF5 mounted on a tripod.”
I was there Maria..the reason you have not heard of this is because it is put on by back country pilots…they have had it on various locations ,but this year it was held on property purchased for their use by a generous donor pilot…a great evening catered Barbe Q and breakfast, evening fireworks and a mad house takeoff and landing drag race.Others went out and landed on little flat spots on top of mountains!!A great time and I plan on next year.kpc
kpc, thank you for the info – sounds like a great time, and thanks to the donor. Would love to have seen the race and mountaintop landings. Keep flying!
Learning in GA never ends: over several years in airport administration in Northern Nevada, I never heard of Dead Cow nor the High Sierra Fly-In. Looks like a good time; save a latte for the rest of us next time, Gary!
