Seabirds flock to SUN ‘n FUN

By General Aviation News Staff · March 14, 2016 ·

The Seabird Organization at SUN ‘n FUN reports it is prepared for a gathering of seaplane pilots, seaplanes and enthusiasts at the 2016 Annual SUN ‘n FUN International Fly-In and Expo, held at Lakeland Linder Airport (KLAL) in  Florida, April 5-10. However, there will not be a Splash-In again this year.

The Seabird hospitality tent will be located at the same location as last year, off Taxiway E-1.

The tent will be the center of activities for seaplane pilots throughout the show.

SUN ‘n FUN will award trophies for the Best of Show Seaplanes for pilots desiring to have their seaplane judged. “Judge me signs” will be available at the Seabird tent to mount on aircraft. Awards will be presented at a ceremony on Saturday evening of the show.

Seabird pilots wishing to participate in the Seaplane Pass-In-Review, a flying event, should attend a briefing at the Seabird tent at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6.

For more information on Seabird activities, contact Geoff Nye, Chairman, Seabirds, at 215-913-4768 or [email protected].

It really is a shame that with all of the lakes in the central Florida area accessible to seaplanes, combined with the large amount of seaplane traffic in the area there will not be some type of organized “splash-in” event. The Seaplane Pilots Association is building it’s hew HQ right in Winter Haven. Perhaps it’s time they take the initiative and devise a plan to provide opportunities for seaplane pilots and to increase the exposure of seaplanes to the general public. It’s a damn shame!
