AOPA to give away 150 to new flying club

By Ben Sclair · April 6, 2016 ·

Thinking of starting a flying club? The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association might just have just the motivation to move you to action.

AOPA will award a Reimagined Cessna 150 to a startup flying club.

“Flying clubs and Reimagined aircraft are great options to bring down costs and get pilots flying more,” said AOPA President Mark Baker. “By bringing them together we hope to get more pilots learning about flying clubs’ benefits, and help get a new flying club off the ground.”

Baker made the announcement at a Pilot Town Hall on Wednesday at the SUN ’n FUN International Fly-in and Expo.

“We want flying to be fun, affordable, and accessible. That’s why AOPA worked with Aviat Aircraft to develop the ‘Reimagined Aircraft’ concept,” AOPA Senior Director of Pilot Community Development Les Smith said.

AOPA’s Flying Club initiative helped create 10 new flying clubs in 2015. It offers benefits including free scheduling software, a premium listing in the AOPA Flying Club Finder, exclusive insurance rates, and access to networking events.

To enter AOPA’s Flying Club 150 Giveaway, qualifying clubs must complete an online application that will be judged by a panel of experts. The deadline for applications is Sept. 1, 2016, at 11:59 p.m. The winning club will be notified on or about Oct. 1, 2016.
