Third class medical reform included in defense bill

By General Aviation News Staff · May 16, 2016 ·

Third class medical reform will once again go to the full Senate for a vote, this time as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

On May 13, the Senate Armed Services Committee approved the NDAA, including third class medical reform language from the Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 (PBR2), by a vote of 23-to-3. The full Senate is expected to take up the measure later this month, according to officials with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

“This is great news for general aviation,” said Mark Baker, AOPA president and CEO. “Third class medical reform is vital to our community, and it has widespread bipartisan support. We applaud Sen. James Inhofe and the Senate Armed Services Committee for taking action to update an unreasonably cumbersome system that costs pilots millions of dollars and countless hours while doing little or nothing to improve safety.”

Inhofe (R-Okla.), who introduced PBR2 and has championed its adoption by the Senate, expressed appreciation for AOPA’s consistent support of the legislation.

“Including the Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 in the National Defense Authorization Act demonstrates the commitment of the Senate to getting third class medical reform passed this year,” said Inhofe. “As always, I thank AOPA for all of the hard work they’ve done to make this a priority in Congress. I look forward to working with them to get this across the finish line.”

The Senate has already approved third class medical reform language from the Pilot’s Bill of Rights 2 (PBR2) twice in the past five months — first as standalone legislation and then as part of the Senate’s FAA reauthorization bill.

I wrote when Mark Baker became president of AOPA that he would be the strongest leader AOPA has ever had. That has proven to to be true several times already.

Gosh, I hope the PBR2 gets through both the Senate and the House in time to be signed into a law that will benefit people who are currently teenagers-or maybe not even born yet. Note my sarcasm. As long as this is taking, how DO we ever get ANYTHING done in this country?!?

Senator Inhole’s views and insights on the PBR 2 and the hoax of man made global warming are right on.

PBR2, good; global warming, not a hoax. Prove it’s a hoax and I’ll believe you. Until then I’ll go with the experts, thanks.

The experts are nowhere near to being on the same page about global warming. There are creditable people on both sides of the argument. The media loves to scream “The sky is falling!” about anything they can light on fire and then report on to make themselves appear relevant. Thus, we only hear what the media thinks gets better ratings. I don’t have conclusive proof that there isn’t global warming, and you haven’t presented any proof there is…thanks…

No, actually, the experts are in near unanimous agreement on this and they say we’re having an effect. The “arguments” on the “denier” side have been roundly dismissed.

Please refer to this, non-media, website for what actual climate scientists agree on: http://berkeleyearth.org/

There have been 8 surveys over the past 10+ years and the consensus is over 97% of actual climate scientists say we’re having an effect. Where’s the survey that says there isn’t one? I’ll give you a hint, there isn’t one.

In 1972 man made global cooling (Google 1970 global cooling) was forcing scientist and engineers to figure out how we were going to have to live underground. How many millions of people would die due to the smog blocking out the sun and causing this cooling. Today, the liberal money grab had switched to global warming through falsified data they use to this day as gospel even though many admitted the data was bad. Whether warming or cooling this argument is a man made lie.

We know that much of the temperature data was accumulated from airfield weather stations many of which were unreliable due to their location and age. Nevertheless, the primary goal, ambition and the bottom line of these these now “weather change” I guess zealots is to separate cash from your wallet and give it to some government or international overlord to waste as they see fit.

Australia was one of the first Countries to rethink their involvement in the fake global warming issue. At stake were billions of dollars being spent for absolutely no solid evidence money stolen from taxpayers would have any measurable effect on the climate.

The only measurable change on climate we are aware of is the geo engineering this government refuses to talk about. If private industry was the pollution boogey man what do we call a government that actually sanctions it and yet sleeps with the agencies that are contracted to stop like the EPA?

“liberal money grab” – That says it all…. You’ve got your position and you’ll assert an epic level of confirmation bias to make yourself feel like you’ve got it all figured out.

              2 points:
              – The “cooling” thing of the 70’s was a minority position blown up by print media.
              – All data is adjusted, not “manipulated” or “falsified” to account for biases.

BTW, my background is in physics and engineering, so while I’m not a climate scientist, I can smell bulls**t a mile away… This is also why I look to the experts to see what they say, and not devolve into paranoia as to people’s intents.

If you insist on paranoia I suggest a look into the money flow from big oil to “think tanks” like the Heritage Foundation and the Cato Institute and their funding of the climate change denier spin machine.

              Good day.

I grew up in ranching and farming so don’t tell me you are an expert on BS! If you believe in man made global warming business then you could be no less than a clone of the liberal left idea of the fake global warming business. A background in physics and engineering does not make you a climatologist. Since you are reading this aviation news site I assume you are a pilot but I could be very wrong. Much of the recent climate data from NASA for example has been proven questionable and when asked to produce source information that request was refused. (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/dec/03/researcher-says-nasa-hiding-climate-data/?page=all)

I am no fan of oil companies choking citizens with high energy prices but the reality is this country has the most energy efficient and clean fuels on the planet. If you want to complain about man made pollution your efforts would be better spent in Beijing or Delhi (http://money.cnn.com/2016/02/17/news/economy/india-new-delhi-air-pollution/) or other eastern markets.

You mention the Heritage and CATO institutes, I have no use for these guys either because these commie partisan institutions are as fake as Obama.

I think we can agree on many things but this man made global weather manipulation is only found in government sponsored geo-engineering in my view. I also think our energy problems were solved a long time ago but that information like so many other things is being withheld from the American citizen for our own economic protection of course.

Over 6000 patents over the last 15 years or so have been seized by the federal government because of their potential effects on this economy and jobs lost in the oil industry primarily. I don’t know about you but every time the price of diesel or gasoline goes down I get a pay raise and since I work for myself that means a lot.

A look back 10 years ago and the preposterous predictions of Al Gore did nothing but line his pockets. None of his predictions from the false data models fit his analysis.

There are obviously folks that have enjoyed the “cool” aid or the “warm” milk, take your pick. The libs have tried to have it both ways. And have brainwashed many. But as long as they support PBR 2 – and GA I really believe there is hope for them.

Too bad Inhofe is involved with this, he’s an idiot. Snowball in the Senate to show that global warming is a hoax? There’s something seriously wrong with him…

That being said, PBR2 is a good thing. He should get it passed and then go retire…

“The National Defense Authorization Act?”, “really/”. The NDAA on its face is filled with unconstitutional acts that attack Americans every day.

Although I think this medical thing is probably OK but placing it in a mess like the NDAA is playing ball with the devil.

The NDAA as bad as it is, is surely gonna pass.
I doubt there is any way to stop it.

The idea is to get something good, the 3rd class medical reform, passed.
