Picture of the day: Seaplanes at Greenville

By General Aviation News Staff · October 18, 2016 ·

Frequent contributor Brian Neidhardt attended the Greenville International Seaplane Fly-In in early September and captured a treasure trove of photos. This Cessna 180 landing over the town of Greenville on Mooshead Lake is just one. See his entire gallery on the show here.

Beautiful pictures I would love to go someday. Also, love the Grumman.

I’m a student pilot and talked my instructor into flying up there for the day to build some cross country hours. What an awesome event! For anyone interested, floats are not required to attend. You can fly into 3B1 in Greenville and catch a shuttle over to the seaplane base. It was an awesome event to witness first hand. And the flight there is over some of Maines most beautiful back country. I’ll be back up with the family after passing my checkride! You could always stop at Twitchell’s (3B5) on the way up and get that float rating you have allways wanted !

Those are beautiful photos. Where is Moosehead Lake? This is not Greenville, SC or is it?

Nice pic, and very nice gallery too. I love seaplanes, someday I will take my seaplane rating.

The plane is obviously landing since there is no wake on the water. But even allowing for a telephoto lens foreshortening the picture, not sure if landing over and that close to the dock and people was necessary.

Hi Jim. I know this photo looks close, but the aircraft is landing at a charted seaplane base. This is the normal approach to this landing. Greenville is an awesome and beautiful place with heavy seaplane activity. This is just what it looks like up here.
