I expetieced hare running across the runway in perth (scotland) scone aerodrome.
At our airport you often hear on the radio: “Turtle on the runway” 🙂
Unintentional, or unavoidable?
At full run, an animal can come into your peripheral vision and then be right in front of you before you have time to recognize the threat and react. That animal can be a deer, coyote, dog, etc.
Some of these NTSB people need to go flying at night and get some experience with critters that decide to cross the runway and find out how difficult it is to avoid them. And pulling the mixture, the prop won’t get stopped in time. So that means an engine teardown if you have a prop strike.
A couple years ago, a RV-6 owned by my brother in Hernando Mississippi was making a daylight landing on a grass airstrip and hit deer severing its neck by the propeller. Result, some good deer meat was enjoyed on behalf of the pilot.
