Frequent contributor Ted Luebbers recently sent in this photo of the Bob Hoover tribute on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles International Airport.
Hoover, considered one of the best pilots in history, passed away Oct. 25 at the age of 94.
Luebbers adds: “Notice his plane, the North American Rockwell Shrike 500S “Sweetie Face” and the life-size statue of the man.”
The statue reflects Bob in his oft and characteristic pose of having removed his signature panama straw hat and is waving it to one of the hundreds of airshow crowds for which he had just performed. Pilot and gentleman extraordinaire for all time was Bob Hoover. His will be a lasting legacy.
