Living Legends to honor aviation’s elite

By General Aviation News Staff · December 6, 2016 ·

John Travolta, the “Official Ambassador of Aviation,” will host the 14th annual “Living Legends of Aviation Awards” Jan. 20, 2017, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

Phebe Novakovic, chairwoman and CEO of General Dynamics, will be honored with the “Aviation Industry Leader of the Year Award.” Dr. Tom Enders, CEO of Airbus Group, and Ray Conner, vice chairman of Boeing Company, will be inducted into the “Living Legends of Aviation.”

Also announced are the recipients of the “Aviation Inspiration and Patriotism Award.” This year there are two recipients: Twin brothers, astronauts Mark and Scott Kelly, both Navy Captains. Scott Kelly recently returned from a year at the International Space Station, and Mark Kelly performed medical tests for comparison here on earth during his brother’s space adventure.

The “Living Legends of Aviation Awards” will feature Steven F. Udvar Hazy presenting the soon to be announced recipient of the “Legends Entrepreneur Award.”

Presented by Bell Helicopter, the “Vertical Flight Hall of Fame Award” will be presented to Steven Hickok for his accomplishments improving the world of vertical flight.

This year the “Living Legends of Aviation Awards” are being dedicated to the three Legends that “flew West” in 2016: David Thatcher, one of the last Doolittle Raiders, Arnold Palmer, and “Charter Legend” Bob Hoover.
