    This picture was taken by my husband Jeff MacFarland! He had no idea what a rare thing it is! He was just taking pictures of the flight. This was the first one he took. Very proud woman here! Thank you so very much William Smith for submitting it!

    Want to thank William(Rusty) for sending in my picture. This was the first flight all three new owners took in our new(old) plane. I was just taking a picture of the lake and wasn’t till later that we realized what a unique and awesome picture it was..

    I’ve seen that a few times from my 172 and never have been able to get a good picture. Looks great! Where do you think the term glory came from?

    The key to this phenomena is finding your shadow on a cloud as this pilot did.

    The halo around a plane’s shadow is technically called a glory. There is a great book called “Chasing The Glory” that describes a modern day pilot’s flight around the US retracing Lindbergh’s flight around the country after his transatlantic crossing.
