Eclipse watching at the airport

By General Aviation News Staff · August 22, 2017 ·

Lara Kaufmann, who may be the most ardent advocate of Greenville Downtown Airport (KGMU) in South Carolina, sent in these photos from the great Aug. 21, 2017, eclipse:

People flocked to the airport to witness the event. Overflow aircraft parking on a temporarily closed runway allowed for extra traffic arriving to view the total eclipse. Planes arrived from Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and many more places.
Eclipse viewers made use of shade provided by aircraft wings.
Runway Park had many first-time visitors to see the eclipse from GMU. Many found the park on the internet and selected it as their destination. Cars came from New Jersey, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Tennessee. These are just some of the license plates that airport officials saw.
Many people came to have lunch at the Runway Cafe to view the eclipse.
Airport staff, friends and family members get a glimpse of the eclipse.
Dusk? Dawn? No… The Great American Eclipse!
