The student pilot reported that, during landing at the airport in Metter, Georgia, he added “too much left rudder and/or brake,” and the Piper PA-28 veered off the left side of the runway and hit a taxiway sign.
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing.
The student pilot reported there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Probable cause: The student pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during landing.
