Historic Flight Foundation to move to KSFF

By General Aviation News Staff · March 13, 2020 ·

The Historic Flight Foundation (HFF) will relocate its flight department and aviation-based STEM education programs to Felts Field Airport (KSFF) in Spokane, Washington.

It is currently based at Paine Field (KPAE) in Everett, Washington.

“The transition reflects both the changing character of Paine Field and the generous outreach of the Spokane Airports board and executives,” said John Sessions, CEO of Historic Flight. “HFF’s collection of important aircraft produced between 1927 and 1957 will continue to give our members and guests a unique opportunity to experience history in motion.”

The P-51 “Impatient Virgin” is one of the plane’s in the HFF collection.

Designed in cooperation with Spokane Airports, the Felts Field facility is larger than the Paine Field location, allowing indoor storage of all the airplanes, according to HFF officials.

A viewing mezzanine spans the length of the building. A member library and seminar room will serve HFF and organizations from the greater Spokane area.

Visitors to Felts Field will be able to watch engineers restore historic aircraft to flying condition, while planned flying festivals will feature the HFF collection.

“The current facility at the southwest corner of Paine Field has successfully offered a view into the hard work and innovations of this exciting period of aviation history,” officials said in a prepared release. “It has been hailed by the community in no small part due to the hard work and dedication of members, volunteers, and employees.”

Officials report that 110 active volunteers staff public hours and 100 more help with special events and projects.

The transition to the KSFF facility should be completed by summer 2020, officials add.
