Regular General Aviation News contributor Bill Walker notes that local pilots and students at the Cape Fear Aviation Flight School at Grays Creek Airport (2GC) in North Carolina, near Fayetteville, know that the approach for Runway 35 offers some interesting challenges. The considerations are tall pines at the approach end, a displaced threshold of nearly 400 feet and a 30-foot-wide runway. Add to that a frequent crosswind sweeping over open agricultural fields with occasional swirling dust along the length of the 3,500-foot runway. Most pilots agree it’s a great place to hone good landing techniques, including arriving precisely on the centerline and staying there during the rollout. Walker’s photo is from a Cessna 172.
