In response to COVID-19’s impact on pilot training and safety, Aviation Performance Solutions (APS) has rolled out a new line-up of free and paid 24/7 online Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT) courses.
The courses allow pilots to study academic portions of upset training remotely at their own pace, according to company officials.
Two main types of online training are available:
Online Courses
These courses offer training on core academic concepts related to airplane aerodynamics and upsets, Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I), and recovery concepts and techniques. APS is offering 50% off every program in the Online Courses section for a three months for anyone signing up before July 31, 2020.
Webinars
APS has released a series of free webinars, as well as the option for pilots and flight departments to take the academics portion of their UPRT course remotely through live-interactive webinars for one to 2,000 participants.

“APS’s new online training options help to meet the needs of pilots who are currently unable to fly regularly during this unprecedented global COVID-19 pandemic,” said Paul Ransbury, CEO of APS. “We are honored to support the safety training needs of the aviation industry during these challenging times through the mobilization of our elite UPRT instructors’ expertise and technology to support this initiative. We have great confidence in the ability of the industry to meet current challenges with optimism and innovation and climb back better and stronger than before.”
Pilots can credit the costs of the paid course options toward their future on-site UPRT programs, company officials added.
APS customers who trained with APS at any of its locations after Jan. 1, 2018, will receive a 100% discount for three months on the APS All-Access Pass to all published courses available in its online academy if they get signed up up before July, 31, 2020.
Prevention training is important but it is only half of the solution. We still need upset training because sometimes things go sour in a hurry.
We train to prevent stalls, and we also train for stall recovery in case we DO stall inadvertently – and it happens.
Upset training is simply an extension of unusual attitude training.
Upset PREVENTION training is the way to go. If a pilot knows how to avoid getting caught in an unusual attitude the chances are much better than recovery training.
