Diamond Aircraft has introduced the five-seat DA50 RG with retractable gear.
The all carbon fiber DA50 RG is powered by a 300-hp Continental CD-300 jet fuel engine and features a Garmin G1000 NXi flight deck with standard 3-axis GFC700 Automated Flight Control System.

“We are very excited to be presenting the DA50 RG to the market,” said Liqun Zhang, CEO Diamond Aircraft Austria. “She is offering so much — space, efficiency, luxury, comfort, safety and retractable gear on a single piston aircraft that will make everyone really stand out. Plus, the extra benefits of operating a jet-fuel powered aircraft — much lower emissions compared to leaded and even low leaded aviation fuels and saving many gallons of fuel and money due to excellent fuel efficiency.”
“Continental’s CD-300 engine and valuable partnership with Diamond on the DA50 RG reinforces the global demand for jet-fueled piston aircraft in general aviation,” added Robert Stoppek, president and CEO of Continental Aerospace Technologies. “The luxurious and modern carbon fiber constructed DA50 RG paired with the 300 horsepower Jet-A engine is redefining the expectations for GA aircraft.”

The all carbon composite airframe incorporates advanced aerodynamics with the latest in passive safety technology for “high performance, great efficiency, and superior occupant protection,” according to company officials.

Diamond Aircraft has developed several features for the DA50 RG to ensure the best flight performance, such as specially designed hinged double slotted flaps for high lift and superior slow speed behavior, as well as many drag reduction features, company officials continue.
The EASA Type Certificate is expected in late summer 2020. FAA certification will start right after and is expected by the end of 2021, company officials note.
Don’t forget about the Rutan Varieze and Long EZ. Better performance and efficiency than anything noted above. Way cooler looking (in my opinion) and you can literally forget about stalling. Worth considering.
It takes the FAA a year and a half to certify after EASA
??? These 2 organizations are not working together any more. The MAX certification errors have developed an atmosphere of finger pointing, insults, and one upping each other. … neither organization is pure of errors given several inflight automation accidents.
The DA-50 RG better price at or below the Cirrus SR22 non-turbo. Max speed 180ktas, ceiling FL20, useful of 1200lbs. Yes it has an extra full fifth seat (the Cirrus has a half fifth seat). And it burns Jet-A. But it has no chute and the retractable gear will prevent many from getting insurance until they do a ton of hours in a retractable. Or if they have the hours, the premium for retractable could double the rates.
Das wurde auch Zeit.
I sat in a DA-62, which is the same airframe, I think, as the DA-50. I’m 6’2” and find even the DA-40 to be cramped versus, say, a 172.
The DA-62, and therefore the DA-50 is luxurious and roomy. Maybe GAN will give one away. :))
They do make pretty airplanes….
Have to differ. The lines on Diamond airplanes are weird and out of proportion. The wings and tail cone are too slender for the rest of the fuselage. The cowlings are blunt and too fat. The winglets used here are useless on an airplane with this speed. No, not attractive airplanes. That said, I’m sure they are very nice flying airplanes.
