Midwest LSA Expo set to take off

By General Aviation News Staff · September 9, 2020 ·

The 12th annual Midwest LSA Expo takes off Thursday, Sept. 10, and will run through Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, at Mt. Vernon Outland Airport (KMVN) in Illinois.

While many airshows and fly-ins have been cancelled in 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers of the Midwest LSA Expo say the show is on, with special attention to health recommendations.

“The expo will adhere to CDC, State of Illinois, and Jefferson County Health Department recommendations,” organizers say. “Social distancing, mask wearing, sanitizing, and the encouragement of good personal hygiene will be stressed.”

Organizers note that the expo’s activities will occur either outdoors, such as the aircraft and exhibitor displays, while seminars and forums will be held inside the airport’s Corporate Hangar. Because of this, “Illinois Phase IV guidelines can be met or exceeded.”

“Thanks to the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency, Midwest LSA Expo has more than enough PPE (personal protection equipment) and sanitizer for all attendees, exhibitors, volunteers, and airport employees,” organizers add.

The Midwest LSA Expo was specifically created to educate aviators about all facets related to the Light-Sport Aircraft (LSA) industry including the many different aircraft types, available engines, and LSA performance, as well as promote the sale of LSAs, the use of LSA aircraft for flight training and in rental fleets, and promote economic development in southern Illinois.

Seminar will cover everything from upcoming changes to the light sport aircraft rule, flying with Rotax engines, preparing for your sport and private pilot checkride, and more.

Exhibitors include AeroPilot USA, Alto North America, Ekolot America, Flight Design, Just Aircraft, Rans Aircraft, Texas Aircraft, Magni Gyro, Magnus Aircraft, Vashon Aircraft, Zenith Aircraft Company, and more.

Admission and parking are free. There is also free onsite camping for both airplanes and recreational vehicles, as well as a free shuttle bus to take attendees from the airport to downtown Mount Vernon for lodging and restaurants.
