The Texas Barnstorming Museum in Hallettsville, Texas, is raffling off a new, ready to fly, Van’s RV-12.
Proceeds from the raffle will go to the museum’s youth program, including a scholarship program.
The airplane was built by a friend and supporter of the museum who completed it, started another airplane, then got cancer and passed.
“His family, knowing what aviation meant to him, gave us the airplane to raffle and start aviation and engineering scholarships in his name,” says Jim Baker, museum director.

“We are completing the certification flights, and the airplane will be sent to a Vans/Rotax specialist to have the life limited components brought up to date, tuned, and inspected,” he continues. “It will essentially be a brand new airplane. We just had it painted, and it is gorgeous!”
He adds the airplane boasts Dynon SkyView avionics.

Just 2,500 tickets will be sold at $100, with the proceeds going to fund more flight training and scholarships. Winners will be drawn when all the tickets are sold or, at the very latest, Oct. 31, 2021.

“We are steadily adding prizes and seeking corporate participation, but as of now there are four prizes,” Baker adds.
Besides the RV-12 for the number one winner, winners two to four will have their choice of ANR headsets from Bose, David Clark, or Lightspeed, he says.

Has the RV-12 been awarded to a winner as yet?
If so, to whom did it go?
Yes. The RV-12 has been awarded. According to the website – http://www.whereolddogsfly.org/vans-rv-12-raffle.html – the winner is named Jacob.
A little more info. Jacob has two sons. Both are pilots. Looks like the RV-12 has found a good home.
Next raffle plane will be a Grumman AA-5.
What is the ticket count up to now?
Hello, I have not received a ticket/receipt. Can you please look and see if you find mine?

I’ve always wanted to learn how to fly. Winning this plane would be a great reason to hurry up getting a PPL.
Can’t wait to see who wins.

For tax purposes, what will the value of the aircraft be established as?

Jim
What’s latest # ? I’m getting anxious 😉
$100 is cheap for any plane! Tickets I bought will just go to the volunteer program and to students! To be a winner would just be the icing on the cake! Good luck to all.
Thurman… I’ve noticed how many tickets you’ve bought and I want to thank you from all of us here. Also, your one of the “every 50 ticket buyers” so I am sending you a rocket dog shirt. I need your size, so could you please just email me that.
Thanks so much again,
Jim
Great cause! I bought a few tickets. Looking forward to the drawing (fingers crossed!)
Thank you Santos! Good luck!
Jim
I bought the winning ticket the other day, so please hurry up and get your ticket, so that I the drawing can be held and I can pick my new RV-12 😉
On a more serious note…I don’t have a lot of extra cash, but this is a good cause to give what little extra I do have.
Tim,
First of all let me say thanks for buying the ticket. I know $100 is a stretch for most folks. In that vein, rest assured I’m cheap with the money we raise. We don’t have any paid employees, and everything that comes in goes out for the students. During these fund raisers, it seems like all I get to talk about is the item and not the individual kids… or the volunteers for that matter. We have 3 kids at TSTC in WACO Texas in the Professional Pilot Program, one at Parks in St Louis, and one at Louisiana Tech. 3 girls and 2 boys, oddly enough. I’m proud of them all.
Anyway, my reply has turned out to be longer than intended… mostly I just wanted to say thanks! We will be adding prizes as we go, hopefully through corporate sponsorships.
Again, thanks again for your support. It’s really appreciated.
Jim
Good for you!
Wings of Hope raffle is 75.00 ticket and they sell 5000 tickets and they sell out in a day or two. I don’t think this is out of line at all, not to mention the money is earmarked for flight training and scholarships.
$100 for a ticket is a lot higher than for others I’ve seen, and with them selling 2,500 tickets, they hope to net $250k…!
That’s a LOT of $$ ..
$100 is pretty cheap for a RV-12… we are adding new prizes,(probably 25 in total) valued in excess of the ticket price.
All the proceeds benefit our scholarship recipients, which will include (for the first time) A&P students. We all know how expensive learning to fly is,
