Texas university program certified Part 141

By General Aviation News Staff · November 30, 2020 ·

HOUSTON — Texas Southern University’s College of Science, Engineering and Technology (COSET) has received designation by the FAA as a Part 141 program.

The FAA issues Part 141 certification to flight schools that have a strictly defined training program. While both Part 61 and Part 141 are part of the same FAA Standards, a Part 141 school may operate more efficiently while training pilots toward a specific career path, according to university officials. The FAA reviews Part 141 curriculum on a regular basis for consistency, continuity, and acceptable flight training practices, officials add.

Flight instructors Captain Sherrill and Dr. Connelly with student Sunmisola (Sunmi) Odumabo who earned his certificate at Texas Southern University in August 2020.

The Houston FSDO office issued the certification to TSU’s private pilot and instrument rating courses in November 2020.

Dr. Terence H. Fontaine, Director of Aviation at Texas Southern University, “We are very excited. The hard work that the staff and leadership have committed to over the past few years has paid off. We now have four aircraft, two full-motion Redbird flight simulators and are growing the program.”

The Aviation Science Management Degree is also accredited by the Association of Technology, Management and Applied Engineering (ATMAE). The program is currently accepting applications, officials added.
