Georgia pilots fly in honor of vets

By General Aviation News Staff · December 29, 2020 ·

A group of pilots in Northern Georgia took to the skies Dec. 18, 2020, to honor the veterans at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.

The event was held in conjunction with the annual National Wreaths Across America Day, held each December, with wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 2,100 cemeteries across the globe.

The pilots involved in the Wreaths Across America flight in North Georgia.

The North Georgia flight attracted 15 aircraft, according to Dan Miller of Blue Ridge Georgia Aviators.

He reports it was an “emotional flight for a couple of pilots who had fathers resting there.”

The group’s next fly-over is slated for Memorial Day 2021, when Boy Scouts place American flags at the veterans’ gravesites.

The Georgia pilots hope their efforts will encourage other pilots to take fight.

“Flights like this are easy to organize and have a special meaning to all participants,” Miller says. “I hope that other pilots from around the country will consider an honor flight group for Memorial Day weekend.”
