Ladies in Flight Training teams with EAA for scholarships

By General Aviation News Staff · January 5, 2021 ·

Ladies In Flight Training (LIFT), a nonprofit geared towards promoting women in flight training, recently handed out five flight training scholarships with some help from the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Earlier this year, EAA helped provide matching funds for flight scholarships to women through its Women Soar Society, matching up to $5,000 in funds, allowing LIFT to provide more than $10,000 in flight scholarships.

This year, LIFT provided one private pilot scholarship for $2,000, an advanced scholarship for $2,000, a speciality rating/training scholarship for $1,000, and two $1,500 CFI/CFII/MEI scholarships.

This year’s recipients include:

  • Domina Stamas, $2,000 Private Pilot Scholarship. Domina recently soloed for the first time with help from LIFT’s scholarship.
  • Amy Hills, $2,000 Advanced Scholarship. Amy used her scholarship to complete her instrument rating, which she did earlier this fall.
  • Manuela Cortes, $1,000 Specialty Scholarship. Manuela will use her scholarship to complete her tailwheel endorsement with Sarah Rovner in Pennsylvania.
  • Andrea Garcia, $1,500 CFI Scholarship. Andrea plans to use her scholarship to pay for her CFI checkride.
  • Nicoletta Fala, $1,500 CFI Scholarship. Nicoletta plans to use her scholarship to work towards her CFII rating.

Ladies in Flight Training began as a Facebook page and incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2018. LIFT has provided more than $20,000 in flight and written scholarships and has helped to encourage several hundred women to earn their private pilot certificates and above. LIFT also creates and sells calendars that focus on various women aviation professionals and enthusiasts, with proceeds from the sales going to the scholarship fund.

LIFT has almost 7,000 women ranging from student pilot to retired airline pilots in its Facebook group.
