New podcast celebrates aviation maintenance

By General Aviation News Staff · January 14, 2021 ·

A new podcast, “Cancelled for Maintenance,” has debuted, hosted by three aviation mechanics.

Cancelled for Maintenance touches on topics ranging from the everyday to the unexpected found in the field.

The podcast is hosted by Six, Man Bear Pig (MBP), and Shoreline, aviation mechanics who are sought after for their advice and ability to get things done, according to the producers.

“They share their stories of success and the antics they got up to,” they add.

New episodes of the podcast are released every Friday. Just search for Cancelled for Maintenance on your favorite podcast platform.

I am super confused by the negative reviews here as I find the show to be a true “behind the scenes” view of how things happen and get done in Aviation. Yes, the dirty little secret that no one wants to see or hear about how these Mechanics/Technicians get things done with what they have available. I have to wonder if the other reviews are from middle/upper management that does not wish to know the truth of how the flight schedule is made every single day, knows it & doesn’t want to acknowledge it because they would be complicit in allowing their people to do so much with so little, so money is saved, or are not even aviation mechanics themselves and cannot truly fathom the levels of ingenuity that are pushed daily to get it done.

The podcast is by aviation knuckle draggers for aviation knuckle draggers. It is labeled as explicit because they use the dirty words that a lot of us do. They speak to us, not at us (cough *management pay attention* cough). Who’s this show for? The crew gets called out at 2:00 AM to fix a high-value flight bird, so the company doesn’t lose money? YEP! The crew told to make it happen while keeping in line with FAA rules and regs? YOU KNOW IT! The military aviation mechanic wondering if it is really like this in the civilian world? YES (you poor soul, it’s true the suck is in all lawns no matter how green it looks).

These guys also skirt that line of “speaking out of school” to bring out the true view of how it can be. I find it refreshing to hear that they say the words that many of us cannot because we would likely have an HR meeting about conditions and employee welfare if we did. It is worth the listen and your time. You know you want to hear what really goes on in the shop/hanger or on the Flightline. DO IT!

While I do appreciate the last three commenters sharing their wisdom of what they consider valuable to the aviation community, I don’t think we were listening to the same podcast. I’ve tried to read their comments in a context that doesn’t make them sound so condescending in an attempt to make themselves sound superior and/or gaslight a conversation, sadly I failed. This podcast is probably the funniest, most down to earth, and truthful portrayal of what goes on in a maintenance shop or flight line. To be so bold as to say this type of stuff they talk about doesn’t happen is either a lie, flat out denial, or both. I would go as far to say that Klaus’ comment about under [age] 40 workers and their “lack of vocabulary” is rather ageist. I sincerely hope that Klaus hasn’t made these comments openly where he works, lest he face some serious HR issues. I fully believe that the people and issues these podcast hosts are parodying happen day to day, and the individuals who fit the description of the ones the hosts are parodying would take great offense to it. I may not have the superior intellect as the previous commenters, but even I know when a media label says “explicit content”, you shouldn’t be playing this in front of kids or have it on speakerphone for all around you to hear (Who listens to a podcast with their kids?). I’ve yet to meet a comedian (or anyone for that matter) who can walk and talk super professional/business formal and still make me laugh. If you’re a real mechanic/technician who’s had to adapt to ever changing conditions, made snap decisions for time critical tasks, and go against the grain from time to time, this podcast is for you! I hope they are reading this and keep up the great work!

I’m glad you like the podcast Joey- to each his own. It’s unfortunate that you have to berate others for offering their opinion of something. I apoligize if I sounded condescending. I certainly didn’t mean to. I was just offering my feedback on a podcast reported on in an aviation publication that was purported to be actually “Celebrating Aviation Maintenance”. I found it did not pertain to much about aviation maintenance at all. Just thought it might be useful information for anyone else expecting the same. And gas lighting? You seem to be the one carrying out the gas lighting.

I do appreciate your apology and clarifying parts of your statement. I for one do enjoy the podcast very much. I feel alot of technicians would get a good laugh out of it since majority of us can relate to some of the struggles they talk about. I won’t perpetuate any finger pointing, and just say myself and other readers/viewers/listeners appreciate your honest feedback.

Agree with the above- little to no value pertaining to aircraft maintenance. Mostly just griping and cussing about their jobs. They definitely don’t sound like professionals in their field. I subscribed because of this article, listened to a few of their past and current podcasts and quickly unsubscribed. Not worth the investment of time.

Hey Phil/Terry/Klaus – are you the same knuckle heads that has attacked my podcast too?

Both these fellas and myself talk about the same issues relating to aircraft maintenance and the industry as a whole.

Cursing is cursing. Many tradesmen do so. Does not make it right but it’s a fact of the industry. How does that take away from the content and facts?

I’m passionate in my podcast and absolutely let the F-bomb drop. Chalk it up to passion, lack of Christ in my heart, not enough kumbaya … what have you.

The Aviation Maintenance Industry is on a downward spiral and getting worse. We both tell it like it is and it’s not always sunshine and lollipops.

These guys inform, educate and pass on knowledge that the flying public doesn’t have/know about. It’s essential that the public be aware.

Each podcast has its niche, it’s ‘order’, it’s ‘thing’.

Again, judging a persons ability to perform the work based on vocabulary is asinine. An aircraft mechanics job is not easy, there is a whole other world of political BS that is involved. There is a ‘rabbit hole’ to the industry that’s dark and unsafe.

Sometimes humor isn’t a bad thing. We both give a ‘voice’ for aircraft mechanics- believe me, that ‘voice’ does not always exist within the industry. Retaliation is a very real thing.

To each their own- chill out. That’s your opinions and this is mine.

      Take care and be safe

Apologies for saying Knuckle heads- I retract that and replace it with “People”. That should work.

Warning – not kid or work appropriate. Language and banter is unprofessional and off-putting. Little to no actual aviation content. Listener beware….not a fan.

Agree. Hired a number of mechanics under age 40 that I feel need to expand their vocabulary. I guess when you use lots of four letter words it impresses the opposite sex these days ?
