National Aviation Hall of Fame wins $250,000 state grant

By General Aviation News Staff · February 8, 2021 ·

A transformation of the National Aviation Hall of Fame is one step closer with a $250,000 grant from the state of Ohio.

The grant will allow the Hall of Fame — which is in the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio — to begin work on its new state-of-the-art facility called the NAHF’s Heritage Hall and Education Center (HHEC).

According to NAHF President and CEO Amy Spowart, the 17,500-square-foot space will eventually include seven renovated areas that engage visitors with videos, graphic displays, and hands-on interactive displays.

“We strive to present a clear vision of aviation heroes — their spirit, tenacity, and ingenuity — which all serve as the legacy of American aviation,” she said. “Our goal is to share their stories in ways that inspire the next generation of aviation and aerospace greats.”

Each year the NAHF provides an increasing number of programs for adults and children of all ages.

“Our HHEC and its programs are free and open to the public,” Spowart said. “Because of that, we have seen our attendance numbers grow as we work to engage teachers, students, active and retired military, and the public at large. Co-located with the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, we are ideally situated to support and improve access to impactful learning experiences that build interest and knowledge in aviation and aerospace heritage for our visitors.”
