When Jon Humberd, who has made a name for himself in the STOL community with his homebuilt Super 701, sent us a link to his newest video about a “sketchy” landing when a sunset flight turned bad, “Caught on Camera: A new disaster,” he expected to “catch a lot of judgment and kickback on this one.“
But he also got a lot of people asking just how he was able to create the video, which includes full airplane shots.
“I am using an old GoPro inside the cockpit that is hooked up to the airplane radio for audio,” Jon explains. “On the outside, I am using an Insta360 on a microphone boom that is mounted to the wing struts. It is extended out approximately even with the propeller.”
‘The 360 camera records the full 360 view all the time and I pick the view/direction I want for the video when I do the editing,” he adds.
Along with his explanation, he sent us the link to another video that “shows quite a bit more flying around the farm with 360 footage and even some waterskiing with a nosewheel airplane.”
What is life without a little danger!?!
Would have been nice to see his video gear!! I’didn’t see any video tips! 🙂
If it wasn’t for folks with a sense of adventure that includes some risk, we would be talking about the latest “buggy whip” videos… Well done and informative.
And dangerous. But, as he said, what’s life if we don’t do, at least one time, the things we want to do?
Awesome
