New USB chargers released for GA aircraft

By General Aviation News Staff · July 1, 2021 ·

MYGOFLIGHT has introduced a new line of USB chargers, INFINITYPOWER, which company officials say “solves the problem of USB charger quick obsolescence.”

“USB technology has changed in form factor and power levels more than five times over the past 10 years,” company officials said, noting USB A 2.0, USB A 3.0, USB A 3.1, USB C, USB C PD are just a few examples of this rapid change.

“Portable electronics have become more and more power hungry, and the industry has responded with fast upgrades to meet that need,” said Charles Schneider, CEO, MYGOFLIGHT. “Unfortunately, the time and cost it takes to re-open a panel, remove the previous unit, and install another is both time consuming and costly. This leads to slow adoption of new power solutions. Not anymore. Install the Power Base Module once. Insert USB Module. Upgrade as desired with a simple twist that anyone can do at any time.”

USB A/USB C Module and Power Base Module both separated and assembled.

The system is comprised of two parts: A Power Base Module and USB Module inserts. Once installed, the Power Base Module becomes a power receptacle capable of receiving any future USB Module. It can be installed in any direction and power can come in from the side or rear. It can be installed in the avionics panel, galley, in-seat or anywhere USB power is desired, company officials said.

When the USB Module is installed, all attachment screws are covered, eliminating the need for any decorative cover as well, officials added.

There is a display that shows power input and amps used by each device. This display is dimmable or can be turned off.

Initially the USB Module available will be a USB A QC 3.0 and USB C PD. A dual USB C PD will be developed next, company officials reported.

Delivery of the patent pending, TSO certified parts is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2021. Retail pricing will be $175 for the Power Base Module and $175 for each USB Module. Introductory retail pricing will be $150 for each component. Pre-orders are being taken now.
