FlightAware, a global provider of flight information, has launched Aviator, a flight tracking suite for piston airplane pilots.
The subscription-based software is accessible via the web and iOS.

Subscribers can register multiple aircraft, including rentals, and unlock features like Ready To Taxi, Premium Weather and Map Layers, Surface Visualizations, FBO Scheduling, and ETAs automatically updated via FlightAware’s machine predictive technology, Foresight, according to company officials.
With Aviator, family, friends, and FBOs can receive alerts from preflight and taxi out, through landing and taxi in. Aviator also provides monthly history reports for pilots to review critical flight details, company officials noted.
“With Aviator, we’re bringing a product with robust tools and processes developed for the most sophisticated flight departments and commercial airlines right to the GA pilot,” said Daniel Baker, FlightAware CEO.
Subscriptions start at $100 a year.
Took the bait at a lower introductory subscription pricing.
With the added data fields mostly blank, Flightaware’s Aviator product isn’t ready for prime time.
Mac says, too much information out there now why would I pay $100.00 to a company to give more.
We have already given up our privacy to move about “our” country freely, ADSB. Autos with GPS and now we need reservations to enter “our” National parks. What’s next?
Too expensive! Besides Foreflight will probably offer it soon which is better use of $100.
I like Flight Aware but I think $100/yr is excessive for the lone AG pilot. I mean, who would use it enough to justify that cost? Not me, and I do use it to track a few friends of mine. I may spend a total of 5 minutes a month on FA. That’s 1 hour a year…
FlightAware could do much better by just asking for donations.
