Staggerwing opera makes its debut

By General Aviation News Staff · July 29, 2021 ·

The world premier of STAGGERWING from Opera Kansas will be held at the Kansas Aviation Museum in Wichita July 30, 2021.

The one-hour opera dramatizes the historic flight of Louise Thaden and Blanche Noyes in the 1936 Bendix Air Race, the first time that the prestigious aviation competition permitted women to participate. Olive Ann and Walter Beech sponsored the team as they flew a Beechcraft Staggerwing C-17 into history.

It is the winner of the 2020 Zepick Modern Opera Competition.

After the opera’s premiere, additional performances are slated for July 31 and Aug. 1. Matinee performances are included with admission to the Kansas Aviation Museum.
