The National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) is making final preparations for the 50th broadcast of its live-streaming program, MentorLIVE, on Nov. 17, 2021, at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
Launched in June 2017, MentorLIVE has reached more than 116,000 CFI and general aviation pilot viewers with its safety messages and educational content, according to NAFI officials. NAFI members and industry experts serve as hosts and speakers for the live broadcasts.
The 50th broadcast features Captain Brian Schiff and aerobatic Master Instructor Mark King in “Understanding Stalls and Spins.”
What causes the airplane to spin? Many high-time professional pilots and flight instructor applicants typically answer, “One wing is stalled more than another.” While that’s a great answer, how do we stall one wing more than another? The response usually includes a blank stare. Mark King and Brian Schiff will answer this question and address the myths, wives’ tales, and untruths about stalls and spins during the broadcast.
“It’s time to take a step back from rote answers about stalls and spins and for pilots to understand exactly what they are and how to avoid an inadvertent spin,” Schiff said. “When an aircraft spins, the outcome can be fatal. That’s why any and all options should be considered while training pilots on spin recovery.”
MentorLIVE is offered free to viewers. It is also interactive, allowing viewers to ask questions and make comments live during the broadcast.
