This is an excerpt from a report made to the Aviation Safety Reporting System. The narrative is written by the pilot, rather than FAA or NTSB officials. To maintain anonymity, many details, such as aircraft model or airport, are often scrubbed from the reports.
I made my departure radio call and taxied onto Runway XX (the preferred departure runway) for a short field takeoff.
As I released the brakes to start my roll forward I saw an airplane taxiing at high speed past me on the right and then in front of me onto the runway. I immediately re-engaged the brakes and aborted the takeoff.
The other aircraft (a Cessna 210) made a radio call saying “Cessna 210 is back taxiing for Runway XY.”
We advised him that he had cut in front of us during our takeoff roll. The pilot replied “I had bad info. I will expedite my taxi out of your way.”
The other CFI who was in the left seat of our plane asked for a radio check and another aircraft in the pattern confirmed that he had heard our radio calls taxiing to the runup area, to the runway, and our departure call. All radio calls I made were loud and clear.
There were no calls from the Cessna 210 pilot who cut in front of me until his call that he was back taxiing after he had cut in front of my takeoff roll.
There is no way he could have not seen me. He had to taxi forward of my position and around me in a very tight area to avoid striking my wingtip or going off of the narrow 40-foot-wide runway.
Unfortunately the pilot of the 210 was taxiing so fast I could not get his N number, and he never appeared on my ADS-B-In traffic system. He never identified himself as anything other than a Cessna 210.

That’s what we get with the ME, ME, ME movement. The bigger, fancier, more expensive, the more glass in the panel makes some people think they are better than the little people.
I was out of flying for a few years and noticed so much of a change when I came back.
I landed, back taxi, got back in line for another take off. The run up area was small. Another hot rod aerobatic was behind me and there was not enough room for him to go around me. Using his radio he yelled that he wanted to go to the ramp. I said that I was waiting in sequence to take off. He yelled for me to go the ramp, let him go by and then I can come back. I said that I will taxi back to my hangar and give it up for the day.
We did have words at my hangar.
This would have not happened even 20 years ago.
Couldn’t follow him to the other end and get his number?…not that I know what you would do with it.
Humans, like every thing else, are not perfect. (sigh)
So, yes, we have to accept that fact and live accordingly,
