Picture of the Day: Remembering and thankful

By General Aviation News Staff · December 27, 2021 ·

Travis Roberts submitted this photo and note: “My favorite place to be is flying a Quicksilver. This picture is of me flying the Quicksilver Super MXL owned by my late best friend, Bill Rohland, who passed away a few weeks later last October. I dearly miss him every day as he was the one who introduced me to ultralights.”

My first flight in an Ultralight was a Quicksilver. It was owned by George Land, the FBO at KBBW (Broken Bow, NE). He loaned me his old Korea era Air Force helmet and off I went to try some fast taxiing. Soon I was flying and with a view very similar to this picture. I promised myself that if I lived thru that experience, I would never fly an UL again. I broke that promise. I would not be against purchasing an UL to wind up my flying career in heavier equipment.
