Husky National STOL Series expands

By General Aviation News Staff · January 7, 2022 ·

The Outlaw STOL event, slated for Feb. 25-26, 2022, at Somerton Airport (54AZ) in Arizona, has been added to the Husky National STOL competition series.

Outlaw STOL was founded in 2021 by Jonathan Stains, a member of the military, a pilot, and a skydiver.

Following his return from Afghanistan, Stains began flying in the Pacific Northwest, where he became part of a large flying community. In 2020 he was transferred to Yuma, Arizona. He missed the weekend fly-ins and his flying community, so set out to recreate that in Yuma and the surrounding area.

Outlaw STOL was started in 2021 with the support of Somerton Airport owner Eric Saltzer and other local businesses, according to Stains.

Partnering with the Husky National STOL Series for its second annual event brings a new level of competition to the Outlaw STOL event, as pilots who compete at Somerton will join the points race toward the Husky National STOL Series 2022 Season Championship, organizers note.

Other events in the 2022 season included the Central Florida Classic, held in Lakeland, Florida, in December 2021, and the Swamp STOL Deux in Jennings, Louisiana, slated for March 18-19, 2022.
