Caribbean Flying Adventures has canceled its April fly-in to Santiago, Cuba, citing an ongoing ban on private flights to the island nation.
“Santiago de Cuba (next to Guantanamo) was founded by the Spanish in 1515. It is less than two hours from Stella Maris Bahamas at 130 kts, but 500 years back in time,” writes Caribbean Flying Adventures‘ Jim Parker in an email promoting the fly-in. “Only 400,000 citizens compared to 2.1 million in Havana. Almost no Americanos! (Havana is crawling with Americans). We will soak up the history, music, dance, colonial architecture, Fidel’s grave, San Juan Hill with Teddy Roosevelt, and eat at some great restaurants.”
Parker said he is planning a fall trip, via airline, while hoping for a change to the ban on private flights.
Not true. US citizens can travel to Cuba, but there are restrictions as to how you get there(Airlines not private flights), where you can go(must provide a detailed itinerary) what money can be used, etc. Can be done, but probably not gonna happen with a large group.

I guess this guy, assuming he is American, does not know about the ban on non-Cuban Americans from visiting Cuba?
Not quite. I’m a Canadian. Vacationned in Cuba many times. Direct flights from Canada. Saw many Americans travelling to Cuba along from Canada, numerous times. No racial profiling here but they were not Cuban-Americans. Was myself surprised to see the welcoming of them by the Cuban authorities, They even stamp their visitors visas on a separate leaflet, not to let a trace in the regular passeport. I guess the Cubans appreciate the extra strong currency coming in.
