Pictures of the Day: The best Dad and CFI!

By General Aviation News Staff · March 24, 2022 ·

Abbie Weir submitted these photos and a note: “Here is one of the numerous selfies that my dad, Ryan Weir, and I have taken together, but this one is extra special to me. I’m finishing up my tailwheel training in a 1996 Aviat Husky, which has been one of my dreams since I was a little girl. Not only is my dad completing my tailwheel endorsement, but he also has been my flight instructor since day one, as I received my private pilot certificate in October 2021, with my dad with me every step of the way.”

“Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps and become the fourth-generation Weir family pilot, and I did just that. In 2019 at the age of 18 years old, I soloed our beautiful 1975 Cessna 150 on Christmas Eve morning in front of a crowd of family and friends with only seven hours of total flight time with my dad clenching the handheld radio as I went around the pattern at Pierce County Airport-Thun Field (KPLU) in Puyallup, Washington.”

“My family, which consists of my mom, Tammy, my dad, Ryan, my younger brother Mason and my two dogs Radar and Ace, have supported me since day one on my journey to become a commercial airline pilot and someday fly for Southwest Airlines just like my dad.”

“I’m currently working on my instrument rating with my dad, who is teaching me the whole way. I truly wouldn’t want it any other way and I’m very grateful to live the life I’m living and to have the best and most supportive family in the world!”
