Wings Over Iowa, the first fly-in event for NGPA, an international organization of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) aviation professionals and enthusiasts, will be held June 3-5, 2022, in Cedar Rapids.
The event includes a fly-in at Eastern Iowa Airport (KCID), participation in the city’s first Pride Parade, and an aviation block party. Organizers add they aim “to give the youth and local community a glimpse into aviation.”
“Inspiring the future of aviation is critical to the mission of NGPA. Our member’s passion for the sky can inspire aviation aspirations when support to achieve one’s flight ratings is more abundant than ever,” said NGPA President Brian Gambino. “With an uptick in anti-LGBTQ legislation in Iowa and around the rest of the country, NGPA must bring visibility to LGBTQ people and provide support to those who may feel support does not exist within their communities.”
Association officials also note that Wings Over Iowa was developed with general aviation pilots in mind.
“NGPA strives to ensure we have programming which speaks to all aspects and interests of our membership,” they added.
