Why I Fly photo contest launches

By General Aviation News Staff · May 17, 2022 ·

The Air Care Alliance (ACA) has kicked off an awareness campaign for public benefit flying with the “Why I Fly” photo contest.

Volunteer pilots are encouraged to submit a photo and brief description that tells why they participate in public benefit flying.

“Every volunteer pilot has a ‘why’ for doing what they do,” says Kristinia Luke, executive director for the Air Care Alliance. “This contest is a fun way to promote volunteer flying and encourage pilot volunteerism by highlighting some truly inspiring reasons to volunteer.”

All entries have the chance to be included in a 2023 Air Care Alliance calendar, as well as be on display at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, according to officials, who note the “real reward is in the flights themselves.”

“The rewards of flying Angel Flights, Young Eagle flights, or similar volunteer missions far outweigh the effort or expense involved in making these flights,” says contest entrant Bob Ogelsby. “Often one experiences places they would have never normally flown to, seen vistas not encountered before, and mastered challenges not found in the Saturday morning local $100 hamburger run.”

All entries will be voted on by the public. Voters can purchase one vote credit for every $1 donated to support ACA’s mission. Voters must purchase a minimum of five vote credits for a $5 donation. Proceeds benefit the Air Care Alliance’s efforts to promote, support, and represent public benefit flying. The contest runs now through May 31, 2022.

The Air Care Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public service organization supporting the work of volunteer-based charitable organizations whose members fly to help others. ACA represents more than 50 volunteer pilot organizations.
