The Flying Musicians Association (FMA) has selected Jovencia (Jovie) Webbeking from Washington as the 15th scholarship recipient of its FMA Solo program.
She was chosen from 37 nominees from across the United States and Canada for the scholarship, which takes a high school music student from zero time to solo.
The scholarships covers 15 hours of dual instruction, online ground school, training materials, and additional products from sponsors.
FMA instituted the scholarship program because officials recognize the parallel skills involved in flying and performing music and “want to promote both areas of growth in our inspired and dedicated future leaders.”
“Jovie will make an excellent pilot as she has proven that hard work, persistence, dedication, and passion works,” officials said. “She is an outstanding flutist. Her approach to learning to fly will guarantee success.“
In the fall, Jovie will attend Vanderbilt University where she plans to major in mechanical engineering and minor in music performance “while still managing to get in flight hours,” she said.
