Pipistrel founders spread the wealth

By General Aviation News Staff · June 9, 2022 ·

In 2020, Pipistrel’s Velis Electro became the world’s first, and currently only, electric aircraft to receive full-type European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification.

On the same day the two majority owners of Pipistrel sold the Pipistrel family of aircraft to Textron Aviation, they donated some of their new-found wealth to the municipality of Ajdovščina, Slovenia, where the company was based.

Some of the 21 million euros donated by Taja and Ivo Boscarol will be used to build a health clinic and the infrastructure for a multi-purpose helicopter service in the new logistics center at Ajdovščina Airport, which will improve health care for local citizens, according to the Boscarols.

About 4 million euros will be spent building an aviation history museum with a science center in Ajdovščina. That project is estimated to be complete by 2026.

Another 1 million euros was designated for landscaping and horticultural improvements for the municipality.

At a recent ceremony where some of the donation was sent to the municipality, Ivo Boscarol praised the fact that the municipality has approached the projects promptly and diligently, and announced that he and his daughter Taja will continue to strive for the development of the local community. He added his new company, Boscarol d. o. o., also plans to invest in real estate, especially in the field of housing construction.

The Pipistrel family aircraft — including the electric-powered Velis Electro — will be the focus of a new business segment for Textron Aviation, called Textron eAviation, according to Textron Aviation officials.
