For the third year in a row, the Planes of Fame Air Museum has cancelled its airshow at Chino Airport (KCNO) in California.

The 2020 and 2021 shows were canceled due to the pandemic. But the 2022 airshow, slated for Oct. 22-23, was canceled for a much different reason, according to officials.

“Due to the substantial road construction and infrastructure projects that have begun on Merrill Avenue, as well as continuing construction work on Euclid and other streets adjacent to the Chino Airport, Planes of Fame Air Museum will not be able to conduct its airshow at the Chino Airport in 2022,” said Jerry Wilkins, executive director of the Planes of Fame.

“The road construction work that is ongoing is expected to continue throughout the rest of the year,” he added. “As such, a workable solution to traffic and parking could not be found.”

Museum officials said they “will continually monitor the road and infrastructure projects surrounding the airport with the goal of bringing the airshow back to Chino sometime in the future.”

But that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to see Planes of Fame Air Museum aircraft at airshows this year.

The museum will participate in the Central Coast AirFest, set to be held Oct. 15-16, 2022, at Santa Maria Airport (KSMX).

“The museum plans to bring over a dozen aircraft to the event and perform several acts during the two-day AirFest,” officials said, adding a portion of the airshow’s proceeds will be donated to the Planes of Fame Air Museum.

According to officials, they have been exploring the possibility of expanding the museum’s operations to Santa Maria Airport.

“During these discussions, the invitation was made to participate in the Central Coast AirFest, not just as a performer, but also as part of the operational team and as a beneficiary of the event,” they noted.
