Helping GA pilots do the math

By General Aviation News Staff · August 16, 2022 ·

Sometimes airport design creates runway and taxiway challenges for general aviation pilots.

This is why the FAA has developed seven new From the Flight Deck videos focused on the challenge of complex airfield geometry. Designed to reduce runway incursions, each video is less than three minutes in length, provides clear animation, and offers “from-the-cockpit” views of taxiing on the complex surfaces.

“The new videos offer knowledge that every GA pilot needs to possess,” FAA officials said.

The YouTube channel for all seven videos can be found here.

Topics of each video are:

  1. Direct Access To Runways from Ramp Areas
  2. Short Taxi Distance from Ramp or Apron to Runway
  3. Taxiway Intersecting Runway at Non-Right Angle
  4. Wide Expanses of Taxiway Pavement Along a Runway
  5. Short Distance Between Parallel Runways
  6. Runway Thresholds in Close Proximity
  7. Hold Short Lines in Unexpected Places
