Harold Bruner submitted this photo and note: “This D17S belongs to the Historic Flight Foundation. It was flown in the STOL demonstrations for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Hangout at Felts Field (KSFF) in Spokane, Washington, Sept. 10, 2022. At the end of a long day she sits there proudly ready to wow the crowd for another 80 years.”
Harold added: “Photo snapped on my iPhone. Smokey haze turned the sunset red to match the plane. Seemed like the perfect setting to capture the moment.”

I have an old postcard of a Staggerwing flying over the Hoover Dam. It has the same paint scheme. I wonder if it’s the same bird? Google “staggerwing hoover dam” and it will bring up an old ebay listing of the postcard I have. Regardless, the Staggerwing is among the most beautiful airplanes ever built and I’m glad to know the Historic Flight Foundation is keeping this one flying.
The stol stag is ours. Bob and Jane Hoff. 114H. The museum’s beatiful stag did not fly during the event. Beautiful picture. Thanks.
