Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma have teamed up with Tulsa International Airport to launch a new patch program called “Aerospace Adventure.”
Girl Scouts earning the Aerospace Adventure patch will learn more about career opportunities in aerospace outside of the more commonly thought of roles, such as pilot, flight attendant, or astronaut, and will get to meet women who work in engineering, aircraft maintenance, airport operations, and other positions.
Girl Scouts who are Cadets, Seniors, and Ambassadors (grades 6-12) are eligible to participate. To earn this patch, girls will complete five activities that help them discover career opportunities, make connections to career path options, and take action in their community to share what they’ve learned. They will research careers in the industry that don’t directly work with aircraft, interview a woman in the field, and even plan an event or activity during Women of Aviation World Wide Week in March.
“At Girl Scouts, we help girls discover who they want to be by introducing them to a wide variety of experiences to see what sparks their interest,” shared Jaime Walton, STEM strategist for the organization.
