A free webinar featuring a roundtable of experts discussing pilot self briefings is slated for Oct. 13, 2022.
The roundtable will include representatives from the National Association of Flight Instructors, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, CAE, the FAA, the NTSB, and Leidos Flight Service to discuss “A Pilot’s Guide to a Preflight Briefing,” published as Advisory Circular 91-92.
The FAA calls Advisory Circular 91-92 “an educational roadmap for the development and implementation of preflight self-briefings, including planning, weather interpretation, and risk identification/mitigation skills.”
The roadmap contains preflight checklists, safety dos and don’ts, and multiple pages of additional resources.
With the majority of pilots accustomed to performing self-briefings rather than calling flight service, the webinar will discuss the clear guidance provided in the advisory while also highlighting the resources available to pilots to ensure that self-briefings are effective and compliant (satisfying FAR 91.103).
According to NAFI President Paul Preidecker, who will participate in the roundtable discussion, “This AC provides a systematic approach to the content and conduct of effective self-briefings. Every pilot can benefit by following the guidelines.”
The webinar goes live Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. Eastern time on YouTube. A Q&A session will follow the discussion.
