FORT WORTH, Texas — H. Ross Perot, Sr. believed that one day Fort Worth Alliance Airport (KAFW) would be “a global hub for the jobs of tomorrow,” according to officials at the airport that now bears his name.
The name change to Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport was officially recognized during a dedication ceremony Dec. 15, 2022.
The airport, which opened Dec. 14, 1989, was the first airport in the world designated specifically for industrial use, according to airport officials.
“My dad wholeheartedly believed Fort Worth Alliance Airport would be the centerpiece of an unprecedented jobs corridor in Texas,” said Ross Perot Jr., chairman of The Perot Group and Hillwood, a global real estate development firm. “Investing in the northwest corner of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex mattered to him, and he immediately saw its potential.”

Born out of a collaboration between Hillwood, the City of Fort Worth and the FAA, KAFW features air cargo, corporate and government aviation, and AllianceTexas.
Consisting of 27,000 acres, AllianceTexas is anchored by KAFW and is home to 559 companies that have created more than 63,000 jobs. The development’s cumulative impact since 1989 is an estimated $100.6 billion for the North Texas region, according to officials. AllianceTexas features corporate headquarters, healthcare providers, higher education centers, shopping and entertainment destinations, and residential communities.
